To Total Film, he said, “It should have been my best work, but I [messed] up. I’ve only seen the film twice and I felt I didn’t give Frank enough complexity and perspective.” He added, “I wish I had another chance to play him because I would have completely altered my performance.”

He apparently went over and above to acquire his gaunt, weary appearance in the film’s last act, subsisting for a week on nothing but water, rice, and bananas. In this instance, the physical effort paid off.
