Cowboys are dressed in their typical attire, which includes spurs, chaps, hats, and vests. Real cowboy gear was all functional (albeit the cowboy look is generally viewed as purely fashion). There were minor regional variances and variations, but the gear was essentially the same. It was created to keep the rider steady in adverse weather situations while also making riding a horse as gentle on the body as feasible.
