The deaths of luminaries Alex Trebek and Chadwick Boseman, as well as the sad loss of numerous talents to COVID-19, ushered in a tough year for Hollywood in 2020. Let us take a look back at the celebrities who passed away in the year 2021.
Willie Garson
Feb. 20, 1964-Sept. 21, 2021
Willie Garson, well known for his depiction as Stanford Blatch in the television series “Sex and the City,” died on September 21 at the age of 57. Garson had recently returned to New York City to reprise his beloved part in the impending “SATC” revival, “And Just Like That.” He died shortly after. Garson’s favorite role in life, despite his professional achievement, was that of a father to his children. During an interview with Page Six published last year, the actor extolled the virtues of his “unique” son, Nathan, whom he adopted in 2009. According to Garson, “He is an adult and soon to be taking care of me, which is actually why I acquired him to be honest,” he explained at the time. “He’s a great gentleman and a truly exceptional individual. He’s excellent, and he’s currently enrolled in college in Ohio.”

Norm Macdonald
Oct. 17, 1959-Sept. 14, 2021
Norm Macdonald, a comedian and “Saturday Night Live” cast member, passed away in September after a quiet nine-year battle with cancer. He was 61 years old. “He was most proud of his comedy,” said Lori Jo Hoekstra, a friend of his who also happened to be his long-time producing partner. “He never wanted his illness to have an impact on the way the audience or any of his loved ones perceived him,” says the author. Norm was the epitome of a pure comedy. He once stated that a joke should always take the recipient by surprise and should never pander to them. He certainly never bowed to pressure.” “Norm will be sorely missed,” she went on to say.
