Clancy’s Saloon

Year: 1897
Location: Skagway, Alaska

Welcome to Alaska, the most isolated and wild of the Old West. Alaska was one of the last frontiers, and the harsh weather and wild creatures presented pioneers with significant challenges. This photograph depicts Skagway, Alaska, as it existed in 1897. As you can see, the image appears to be straight out of an Old Western MGM film, owing primarily to the appearance of the vintage Clancy’s Saloon. Skagway still has Gold Rush-era structures, which are all maintained as part of the famous Klondike Gold Rush Historical Park.
