Walken was able to see his own burial while he was concealed in some nearby bushes, which was a pretty weird experience. At least he attended the funeral of Nick, the character he played in The Deer Hunter! He said to Peter Travers on the TV show Off the Cuff, “I went and hid in the bushes, and I watched everybody being sad. I had a real day off because they were burying me.”

Walken portrays a paraplegic gangster in the film Things To Do In Denver When You’re Dead, which has a fantastic title. Jenny McCarthy, who plays his nurse, revealed on Late Night with Conan O’Brien how Walken approached the part a little methodically. She alleged that he continued nibbling on a rotten apple he kept in his pocket. He also smelled strongly like formaldehyde. Gross.
