In a musical adaptation of Puss in Boots from 1988, Walken portrayed a ginger cat that had been changed into a person. For the part, he even dyed his hair red. He stated to Entertainment Weekly in 2014, “I thought I was very good as the cat!” He then revealed that he and the cat actor were buddies: “The cat they used, he lived with me in my trailer. He would sleep in the bed.”

Walken has experimented with penning his own scripts throughout the years, like many other performers. However, as he said to Interview magazine, “It never comes to anything.” It seems he has little confidence in his skill as a writer and is very self-conscious about his work.
