Even though all of their jokes were meant to be amusing and parodic, some of the prophecies that came true were harsh. In fact, JCPenny faltered significantly and declared bankruptcy in 2020. Marge discovers in the episode that a JCPenny store had existed where a man is currently selling Persian CDs.

The Spying Scandal
The Simpsons Movie foresaw the major NSA espionage scandal involving Edward Snowden in 2013. The Simpsons were followed in the 2007 film as they fled Springfield’s EPA biodome. The NSA, however, locates them by listening in on their conversations. Six years later, Edward Snowden was extensively recognized in the news as the surveillance-related whistleblower.
