Hiding behind a dumpster
Steven quickly ducked behind a dumpster. When he looked at the breach, he saw Jake climbing through it, followed by his dogs. He was on the phone with someone, seeming both disappointed and frustrated. “I got it. “I really thought I had it,” he continued, his voice quivering with frustration. “Don’t worry, you will get it back.” Steven wondered what Jake was on about. Was he after anyone? Suddenly, one of Jake’s dogs started growling. Steven looked back at Jake and saw one of his dogs snarl and expose its teeth. Steven’s eyes widened with surprise, and he froze with horror. He held his breath, hoping the dog would leave.

Hiding Behind A Dumpster
Not letting it go
Jake whistled as the dog approached Steven, and the dog ran away. Steven sighed with relief. That could’ve gone very differently. He noticed the opening in the fence and then the decaying structure. What was Jake doing inside there? Steven wanted to see for himself, but just as he decided to step in, his mother contacted him. “Where are you?” she messaged. At that point, he realized she had already called four times. He hurriedly called her back and headed home, hoping not to run into Jake along the way. As soon as he arrived home, he concocted an excuse she could believe. Even though Steven didn’t know exactly what Jake was doing, he knew he couldn’t let it go now.
